The T-90 is the latest development in the T-series of Russian tanks and represents an increase in firepower, mobility and protection. It is manufactured by Uralvagonzavod in Nizhnyi Tagil, Russia. The T-90 is currently the most modern tank in the Russian Ground Forces and Indian Army arsenal. The successor to T-72BM, the T-90 uses the gun and 1G46 gunner sights from T-80U, a new engine, and thermal sights. Protective measures include Kontakt-5 ERA, laser warning receivers, the EMT-7 electromagnetic pulse creator for the destruction of magnetic mines and the Shtora infrared ATGM jamming system. January 31, 2006 marked the maiden flight of the P-791 experimental hybrid airship. Developed by Lockheed Martin’s Advanced Development Programs aka Skunk Works, the P-791 hybrid airship was flight tested at Lockheed Martin’s flight test facility on the Palmdale Air Force Plant 42.

On April 7, 1943, James Elms Swett, division flight leader in Marine Fighting Squadron VMF-221 became an ace on his first combat mission. He shot down 8 enemy aircraft and was eventually awarded the Medal of Honor. His amazing achievements and mastery of the Wildcat were recreated using computer graphics for the History Channel series “Dogfights”. James Swett tells the story of that amazing day, when he became ace in just 15 minutes, on his first ever combat mission.

The Kamov Ka-50/52 is the world’s first coaxial attack helicopter. The Ka-50 Black Shark and Ka-52 Alligator have entered service with the Russian Army in 1995. Developed in the mid 1980s, the Kamov Ka-50 Black Shark is also the world’s only single seat attack helicopter and the first production helicopter to be fitted with a zero-zero ejection seat.

The Dassault Rafale is the latest generation multi-role fighter produced by the French company Dassault Aviation. The Rafale is a twin-engined delta wing 4.5th generation fighter similar in concept to the Eurofighter Typhoon, that entered service with the French Air Force ( Armee de l’Air ) and the French Navy ( Marine Nationale ).

After the end of WW II, and with the success of the Nagasaki and Hiroshima atomic bombings, USAF commanders believed the future of military aviation lay in long range, high altitude strategic bombers. In the 1950s one of the most impressive nuclear bombers was developed for the United States Air Force Strategic Air Command: the North American XB-70 Valkyrie.

An I.E.D is an improvised explosive device. Partially comprised of conventional military explosives, IEDs are deployed unconventionally for use by commando or guerilla forces. Artillery rounds can often be riggged, attaching a detonating system. IED Hunter is a parody to Steve Irwin’s “Crocodile Hunter” TV series. Seems this little vid was also featured on the History Channel, “Band of Bloggers” series. Good effort to fight boredom by the US Marines. (Read more…)

The Visby Class of stealth corvettes is being built for the Swedish Navy by the Swedish company Kockums (a subsidiary of ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems of Germany). Visby is the first operational stealth ship in the world. The first ship of the new stealth corvette class is named after the main city on the island of Gotland, Visby.

The Sea Shadow is an experimental stealth ship designed by the US Navy, Lockheed and DARPA ( Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency). The Sea Shadow was ordered in 1982 to examine the applicability of stealth technology on naval vessels as well as a test bed for automatic on-board systems to reduce the number of crew members. The Nordenfelt gun was designed by Swedish engineer Helge Palmcrantz as a multiple barrel machine gun.
The machine gun had a maximum of twelve barrels and was manufactured for calibres up to 25 mm.
The mechanism which loaded and fired the gun was patented in 1873 and consisted of a lever moved backwards and forwards.
